Swedish as a second national language: Swedish at workLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

Students achieve the verbal and written skills of Swedish required in their line of work in accordance with the legislation on Polytechnics (352/2003 8§). This means that they are able to communicate in their work environment in Finland and other Nordic countries, considering the cultural and linguistic aspects of those taking part in the interaction. Students’ verbal and written level of communication equals B1 of the Common European Framework of References for Languages. Students know how to acquire information on their field of study from different sources and convey it verbally and in writing. During studies, students have a positive and realistic view of their language and communication skills as well as their ability and motivation to develop these skills further.

Content

Opintojakson sisältö määräytyy koulutusohjelma- tai
suuntautumisehtovaihtokohtaisesti.
Sisältöinä on seuraaviin aihekokonaisuuksiin liittyviä, kullekin opiskelualalle
olennaisia suullisia ja kirjallisia harjoituksia:
- kieli- ja viestintätaidon itsearvionti ja oppimisstrategioiden kehittäminen
- koulutus ja ura
- alan organisaatioita, työympäristöjä, -tehtäviä, -prosesseja, -välineitä
- ammattialan tekstejä ja ammattiterminologian kartuttamista ja aktivoimista
- ammattialan keskeisiä vuorovaikutustilanteita: yksilö- ja ryhmäviestintää

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

In communication situations related to his/her field:
The student manages in the most common general and specialised professional commu-nication situations.
The student composes simple, partly incoherent texts. Language errors may impair under-standing but do not prevent the delivery of the message.
The student participates in simple spoken interaction but often needs help from the con-versation partner.
The student uses basic general and technical terminology of his/her own field; inaccuracy and the influence of other languages may interfere with the delivery of the message. Uses basic grammatical structures in a repetitious and partly incorrect manner.
The student pronounces in a mainly comprehensible manner, although the pronunciation deviates from the target language. The slow sentence rhythm makes it difficult to estimate if the message is delivered.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In communication situations related to his/her field:
The student manages relatively well in daily general and specialised professional dis-course.
The student composes coherent texts that successfully communicate the intended mean-ing.
The student takes initiative in familiar professional communication situations.
The student uses general and basic technical terminology of his/her own field relatively well. Lapses may occur in the choice of words or grammatical structures, but these do not cause misunderstanding.
The student pronounces in a comprehensible manner. Pauses in the sentence rhythm do not cause misunderstanding.

Ammattialaansa liittyvissä viestintätilanteissa:
Opiskelija selviytyy hyvin monipuolisissa ja vaativissakin yleisissä ja alakohtaisissa työelämän kielenkäyttötilanteissa.
Opiskelija osaa kirjoittaa selkeää ja yksityiskohtaista tekstiä tilanteeseen sopivalla ja osuvalla tavalla.
Opiskelija osallistuu aktiivisesti ja tilanteen mukaisesti vuorovaikutukseen ammattialan tilanteissa. Puhe on sujuvaa ja vaivatonta ja ottaa huomioon keskustelukumppanin.
Opiskelija käyttää oman alan ja yleiskielen sanastoa monipuolisesti ja rakenteita lähes virheettömästi.
Opiskelijan ääntämys on selkeää, lauserytmi luonteva.
