Learning outcomes

The student
- can visualize Nordic and Baltic Finland and its’ relationship to Europe today.
- understands the Finnish political and cultural history, including Swedish and Russian domination periods
- is able to recognize Finnish achievements in architecture, design, sport and music.

Content

This module introduces Finland to foreign students, showing the special historical, cultural, economic and political issues of Finland.
Finland as a neutral country between East And West, and an integral part of the new Europe.

Prerequisites

English level 2.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student
- can explain the basics of Finland today, its’ economy and history
- shows understanding of life in the Nordic and Baltic region
- can enjoy the Finnish achievements in engineering, music, sport and culture
- knows the basics of Finnish built and natural environment

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition of the criteria mentioned above, the student
- has ability to assess Finlands’ economic structure
- can explain Finnish cultural achievements

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition of the criteria mentioned above, the student
- can apply the concepts neutrality,
- understands fully Finnish cultural and engineering achievements

The student
