Objective

A student recognises his/her strengths and areas of development with planning of his/her studies. A student knows what kind of Finnish language skills, study skills and digital competence are needed when studying in higher education and is able to develope these skills.

A student is able to operate in digital learning environment/s, to use digital conferencing and is able to use cloud services in processing and sharing the data. A student is able to find main features in texts relevant to higher education (curriculum, professional publications and study materials) and is able to understand and write down the main facts also from the spoken language. Level of Finnish language B1.1.

Content

The course gives you an introduction to Finnish higher education system and higher education as a learning environment and an individual study plan will be drawn up (ISP) for you.

A course orientates you use digital tools, introduces different learning techniques and you will also be orientated to your chosen study path within in preparatory education. Language studies concentrate on a vocabulary related to studies in higher education and you will learn to read and understand expository texts.

You will also practice listening comprehension, making of (lecture) notes, how to search for information from different sources and you will learn to recognise different types of texts. You will be given tools to practice you Finnish language skills independently and you will practise how to study on-line.

Student has achieved the course objectives fairly. Student is able to identify and use the course subject area’s concepts and understands the conditions of knowledge and skills development.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. Student is able to use well the course concepts and to apply his/her knowledge in study and work situations. Student is able to analyze his/her own knowledge and skills.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. Student masters commendably the course subject area’s concepts and is able to make justified and fluent analysis on course subject area. Students is well prepared to apply his/her knowledge and skills in study and work situations. Student is able to analyze the competencies of the study field and the development of his/her own knowledge and skills.
