Objective

After completing the course, the student will be familiar with his / her physical and social learning environment, the requirements and rules of higher education. The student recognizes what internationalization means in his or her field as well as opportunities for international exchange and training. He / she is able to outline the job opportunities in his / her field and the contents of his / her degree.
Students are able to evaluate their learning, themselves as a learner and their own strengths as a student. He / she can set goals and make study plans for his / her studies.The student is able to write basic texts in his / her field, communicate in his / her field and apply language recommendations. The student is able to use essential office tools. The student knows the social significance of the construction industry, key companies, organizations and actors.

Orientation to the learning environment and the learning field, requirements and rules for higher education, degree Regulations, curriculum, personal study plan and credit transfer, the key competence of the degree program. developing one's own learning capacity and University of Applied Sciences study tools. Higher education services, internationalization. Health Care System. Library. Student and Admission Services. Student organizations, Metka. Technical language usage recommendations. Report as a form of communication and text: structure and layout of the report. Word processing and presentations. Construction in society. City Walking Tour. Company visits. Location and time

Contact lessons are conducted in Myllypuro campus, autum-period 2020.

Student workload

5 credit units consists of approximately 135 working hours for students. This includes altogether about 60 hours contact lessons and distance-learning lessons.

Opintojakson rakentaminen yhteiskunnassa osuus (2 op) toteutetaan kokonaan verkko/itseopiskeluna. Tietojenkäsittelyn perusteiden (1,5 op) sekä Orientaatio AMK-opintoihin (1,5 op) osiossa on luokkahuoneessa tapahtuvaa opetusta, joka voidaan tarvittaessa siirtää etäopetukseksi.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student knows how to operate in Metropolia's operating and learning environments in accordance with its policies, rules and guidelines. Students recognize their own strengths as a learner and know what systematic study means. The student knows the study tools related to his / her own studies, learns how to use them. Students takes part in field-specific events.
The students become familiar with the key players in the real estate and construction industry, their fields of activity, and the basic rules and guidelines.
The student knows the terminology of his / her field, how to obtain information and is able to prepare documents according to given instructions and models as well as apply language recommendations.

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation passed - failed.
Evaluation consists of continual monitoring of attendance to the contact lessons and distance learning lessons as well as performing the learning assignments.
