Objective

The students can carry out basic professional tasks. They can act as individuals and as group members to complete the assignments. They know the work related and problem solving methods as well as the basic principles of project work. They can explain how a project is managed and how the tasks of the project are intertwined.
The students can communicate with the colleagues and various interest groups. The students can create understandable documents based on templates and standards.
The students can apply the principles and practices of technical reporting in Finnish.
The students are able to perform the basic HVAC installations and to calculate the need for materials for the installation.

The students are able select the necessary equipment and implement minor electrical installations, to document them and perform the standard safety measurements.

The students can facility maintenance or service tasks or assisting tasks of facility management.

Content

Project (4 ECTS): Basics of project management. Planning and implementation of a project in workgroups.
Finnish language and communication (3 ECTS): Report as a genre: structure, language, layout, use of source material, paraphrasing, documenting references in the text, and illustration of information. Use of Finnish and writing conventions in technical texts. Locating relevant source material and critical use of information sources in the field. Verbal presentations, planning and visualization of presentation. Verbal project communication and project documentation including project plan, report and public information.

Students choose between HVAC installations, Electrical installations and Real estate management (only for students of Property Management) :
HVAC installations (3 ECTS): Installation methods for piping, ventilation and refrigeration systems. Materials, supplies and jointing methods. Support and compensation. Equipment connections. Implementation of piping, ventilation and refrigeration systems in connection to other building services systems. Calculations of quantities for HVAC systems.
OR
Electric installations (3 ECTS): Fundaments of the tasks done and material used in electrical installations. Structures and safety of electricity distribution in and around buildings.
OR
Real estate management (3 ECTS): Basic knowledge on facility maintenance and management services. Facility maintenance according to contracts, and service of technical systems.

The students can describe the duties of the professional as well as the used work methods and problem solving skills and data sources. They can explain how a project is managed and how the tasks of the project are intertwined. The students can describe one's part of the group work and co-operate in a group.
The students can create understandable documents based on templates and standards and apply the recommendations for language use. They can search for information on their own profession.
The student recognizes the most common installation methods and is able to select equipment and implement minor HVAC OR electrical installations according to instructions. In addition, the student is able to evaluate the amount of material needed in installation work.

The students can facility maintenance or service tasks or assisting tasks of facility management.

In addition to above, the students are able to apply the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course to simple problems related to course contents.
