Objective

On completion of the course, the student has a deepened understanding of the topics introduced in Math and Science Basics 1. The student can understand how physical phenomena are related to the laboratory analysis and gains a deeper understanding of a natural scientific phenomenon that underlies a technical application. Student can apply scientific methods in laboratory analytics problems. Student can use Excel applied to the laboratory analysis.

Content

1. Excel-exercises integrated to the course of analytical chemistry in laboratory analytics (derivation of the titration curve, regression analysis, using the logarithmic scale in laboratory analysis
2. Basic probability, random variables, common probabilty distributions applied to the problems in laboratory analysis.
3. Derivation and integration in laboratory analysis
4. Kinematics: motion in one dimension
5. Dynamics: Newton’s laws 1 - 3
6. Energy and power
7. Circular motion
8. Pressure of fluids
9. Arkhimedes principle
10. Flow of fluids
11. Viscosity
12. Temperature
13. Thermal expansion
14. Heat capacity and chemical calorimetry
15. Heat transfer
16. Electric current and basic DC circuits (Ohm’s law)

Evaluation scale
