Objective

The student will be familiar with power plant technology and the principles of power plants. The student will understand the principles of the choice of process values for and the design of power plants. Student recognises basics of centralized and distributed energy systems. On completion of the course, the student will understand the fundamentals of energy economics and its applications to the production, use, and prices of energy, as well as the trade in energy sources.

Content

-Centralized and distributed energy systems
-Calculation and selection of the process values for a power plant
-Energy production management
-Energy purchase costs: fuel prices and availability, energy tariffs, scenarios.
-Energy costs of production: district heating and electricity production costs
-Different types of plants and their characteristics
-Equipment procurement procedures and costs
-Emissions trading, electricity trading and markets
-Ionizing radiation and radiation protection
