Objective

You will be able to simulate the hygrothermal performance of a building envelope and interpret the results:
planning and construction of new buildings
identifying and avoiding risky structures
when modifications are made to an old structure
its building physical behaviour will change
At least the performance of the structure should not degrade!
carrying out structural condition surveys
identifying moisture damages, analysing physical processes leading to them and recommending possible measures
Acute questions, true professionals are needed:
? effects of climate change?
? energy efficiency requirements, low energy and passive houses

Content

Heat and moisture transfer and storage in building envelopes
Modern information technology
several simultaneous physical processes
complex structures:
corners, thermal bridges, ground soil etc.
time-dependent systems:
variable weather conditions
drying of a structure, heat storage etc.
Carrying out a simulation and interpreting the results

Evaluation scale

0-5

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students have achieved the course objectives fairly. The students recognizes, are able to define and use the subject matter of the course concepts and models. The students understands the criteria and principles of developing expertise.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. The student has completed the required learning exercises in good or satisfactory level. The student is able to define the course concepts and models and is able to justify the analysis. The student is able to apply their knowledge in study and work situations.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. The student master commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student has completed the required learning exercises in good or excellent level. The student is able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The student is well prepared to apply their knowledge in study and work situations.
