Objective

The student is able to apply the acquired analytical skills in analyzing air, water and soil samples. S/he knows how environmental samples are sampled and processed for chemical and microbiological analysis

Content

Sampling and analysis of environmental samples according to standard methods, including chemical (e.g. radioactive isotopes, heavy metals with ICP-OES and ICP-MS techniques, VOC, POP and hydrocarbons with GC-MS/ECDs and LC-MS techniques) and microbiological analysis (molds and bacteria). Chemical and biological analysis of microbial diversity

Materials

Moodle: "Sampling and Chemical Analysis of Aquatic Environment" 1 cu (Ruismäki)
Moodle: "Sampling and Chemical Analysis of Air 2019" 1 cu (Toukoniitty)
Tabula: "Sampling and Chemical Analysis Contaminated Soil" 1 cu (TAMK, Szabo)
OMA: Lecture material and laboratory excercises 7 cu

Teaching methods

Lectures
Virtual courses in Moodle (Metropolia) and Tabula (TAMK)
Laboratory Exercices
Project (Field Week)
Excursions

International connections

Students from the Netherlands and Tampere UAS will participate "Sampling and Chemical Analysis of Aquatic Environment"-course and project (so called Field Week) in Harakka Island (or alternatively in Tampere or Breda).
Four exchange students will participate the whole 10 cu course.
