Objective

On completion of the course the student is expected to understand the role of building services contracting in the construction process. The student is expected to be familiar with the labour market organisations and wage systems in the field. The students are able to act as a responsible foreman for water and sewage systems and air conditioning systems installations of demanding buildings after obtaining sufficient work experience. The student is also expected to be familiar with the principles of setting the price on a contract and calculate the bid and to be able to implement the standard conditions of contract on a general level. The student is expected to know the tasks, rights and responsibilities of supervisors, be familiar with the proceedings at site meetings and be able to act in them. The student is able to use information models for contracting. On completion of the course the student will have an overall understanding of the role of deliveries in the economic outcome of contracting. The student is expected to know the stages of delivery and to be familiar with and able to write delivery documents. Furthermore, the student is expected to be able to assess the effect of deliveries and changes in timetables on the economy of the work site. The student will be familiar with the computer-based EDI tools. On completion of the module the student is expected to be familiar with the progression of task and quality design and with the factors influencing the plans. The student will learn to draw up task design and to use it when supervising the work, preparing purchases or preparing subcontracts. The student is expected to be able to draw up the outlines of quality design for building services acting as a tool for work site supervision. On completion of the module the student is expected to understand the policies of an enterprise. The student is expected to pay attention to and be able to improve his or her use of time, and to prioritise his or her tasks. The student is expected to understand the factors affecting safety at work. The student is also expected to participate in improving the policies in the company.

Tender calculation, contract pricing, contract agreements, starting tasks of the contract, building stage, commissioning, guarantee period, building maintenance, unit price lists, cost effects of schedule changes, purchasing, subcontracts, Electronic data interchange in connection to deliveries, time management methods and tools, general terms of contracts, regulations and instructions for building, construction supervision. Task and quality design. Policies in a building services engineering company. Time management skills and their improvement. Occupational safety and health.

The students are, when assisted, able to act as foreman for water and sewage systems and air conditioning systems installations. The students are able to recognize the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course and are able to solve simple problems.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are individually able to act as foreman for water and sewage systems and air conditioning systems installations.They can create contract documents. In addition to above, the students are able to apply the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course to simple problems in natural and technical sciences.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to above, the students are able to use tools to create time tables.
The students are able to apply the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course to more demanding problems in natural and technical sciences.
