Objective

On completion of the course the student will:
- know constituent materials of concrete
- know properties of concrete and how to control them
- know concrete mix design
- know execution requirements (in-situ) of concrete structures including relevant regulations.
- be able to plan concrete works and supervise the execution
- be able to prepare a concrete plan and document execution records
- know special requirements related to cold weather concreting
- know the principles of executing concrete floors and related quality requirements
- understand surface finish requirements and factors affecting the quality of surface finish
- know special methods of concreting.

Content

- Constituent materials of concrete, laboratory methods for quality control of fresh and hardened concrete including concrete preparation and casting in the laboratory.
- Calculations of concrete mix designs.
- Recognition and control of concrete properties; both good and challenging properties.
- Execution requirements (in-situ) of concrete structures including relevant regulations.
- Concrete type selection based on structure and conditions (environment, weather).
- Formwork technology.
- Concreting in cold weather; required procedure.
- Concreting of floors; required procedure.
- Concreting with special methods.
- Preparation of concreting plans.

- know the properties of concrete and how to control them
- plan concreting

- be able to plan concrete works and supervise the execution
- be able to prepare a concreting plan and document execution records
- be able to list special requirements related to concreting in cold weather
- be able to plan and supervise the executing of concrete floors and explain relevant quality requirements
- understand surface finish requirements and factors affecting the quality of surface finish.
