Objective

The student understands the networking of a work community and is able to operate in various roles in the work community. The student is knowledgeable of social and health services and the main legislation that defines them. The student is knowledgeable of the principals of accessibility from the point of view of clients, employees, operational environment, and legislation.

The student knows the principles of organizing podiatric services. The student is knowledgeable of the principles of organizing services and competitive bidding practices of the services. The student understands the meaning of social and health services to individuals, communities and the society. The student is able to direct clients to appropriate services. The student recognizes the student’s own potential as a podiatric operator and developer.

Occupational life Swedish: The students acquire the written and oral language skills in the second domestic language that are necessary in their professional field, as stipulated by national legislation (1129/2014, 7 §). The students have the written and oral language skills to communicate in work environments of their professional field, and as members of a multidisciplinary work community while ethically considering various operators when working in Swedish in Finland and in Nordic countries OR in Finnish (as a second language) while considering the cultural and linguistic starting points of people participating in the communications. The students acquire oral and written language and communication skills (Swedish or Finnish as a second language) reaching the minimum of B1 level as defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They learn to seek information related to their own professional fields in various sources and convey information both orally and in writing by utilising the opportunities provided by technology and digitalisation. During their studies, the students form a positive and realistic view of their language use and communicative competence as well as skills and motivation to develop them further.

Second domestic language: In communication situations related to his/her field the student manages in the most common general and specialised professional communication situations. The student can write simple, partially non-uniform text. Errors may cause difficulties to understand, but they do not prevent the message from being conveyed. The student participates in simple interaction, but often needs support from their discussion partner. The student is familiar with the normal vocabulary of their field of expertise and general language, but inaccuracies and the effect of other languages may interfere with conveying messages. The student uses the most common basic structures is a monotonous, and partially incorrect, manner. The student mainly pronounces correctly, although pronunciation differs from the target language and the slowness of the sentence rhythm makes the assessment of communication functionality difficult.

Second domestic language: In communication situations related to his/her field the student manages reasonably in everyday common general and specialised professional communication situations. The student can compose coherent texts that successfully communicate the intended meaning and takes initiative in familiar professional communication situations. The student uses general and basic technical terminology of his/her own field relatively well. Lapses may occur in the choice of words or grammatical structures, but these do not cause misunderstanding. The student pronounces in an understandable manner, and the breaks in the sentence rhythm do not interfere with conveying messages.

The student can produce clear and detailed texts appropriate for the situation. The student is an active participant in professional communication situations and allows for the requirements of the situation. Speaks fluently and effortlessly and takes the conversation partner in account. Uses technical and general terminology as well as grammatical structures diversely and almost without errors. Pronounces clearly, with a natural sentence rhythm.
