Objective

Professional communication 3 ECTS
Students are able to act in communication and interaction situations between study and working life, and are able to produce text types in their field for different channels. Students are able to communicate as experts in various tasks. They are able to search for, and evaluate information critically, and use it purposefully. Students know the good practices of oral and written communication and are able to apply them appropriately. Students are able to utilise their language and communication skills for the continuous development of their thinking and expertise.

Basics of foot orthoses 2 ECTS
Students describe factors in relation to the function and movement of lower limbs as well as the functional limitations they cause. They can explain most common foot problems. Students are familiar with the basic elements of foot orthoses including their function and structure.

Professional communication
• Expert text skills and drafting of professional texts
• Interaction skills: customer communication, team work and negotiation situations
• Presentation skills, speaking to influence and giving feedback
• Communication planning and evaluation
• Basics of scientific writing
• Ethical and critical use of sources and referencing


Foot orthoses
• Needs analysis of foot orthoses, client advice and instructions
• Different foot orthoses and their impact on functional capacity
• Biomechanical examination of lower limbs

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Under guidance, the student is able to use and produce different types of oral and written texts in professional expert work. The student obtains information from professional sources and utilises the obtained information in both studies and work assignments. The student knows how to operate in communication situations of expert work as well as research and development work.

Basics of foot orthoses
Students use the appropriate core concepts and make choices using the knowledge based on their own professional field. They recognise the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions. Students’ actions follow the rules and instructions given, and they use the working methods appropriately and safely. Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act responsibly as group members.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is independently able to use and produce different types of oral and written information in professional expert work. The student knows various ways to obtain information from professional sources and is able to analyse its reliability and usability in both studies and work assignments. The student operates constructively in communication situations of expert work, as well as of research and development work.

Students analyse the relationships between appropriate core concepts and justify their choices using the knowledge based on their own professional field. They analyse the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions. Students act according to the rules and instructions given in different operating environments, and they use the working methods appropriately and safely. Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act flexibly as group members.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to purposefully use and produce different types of oral and written information in professional expert work. The student knows various ways to obtain information from professional sources and is able to critically assess the reliability and usability of that information in his/her studies and work duties. The student knows how to operate as a group member and leader in communication situations of expert work, as well as of research and development work. The student shows determination to develop his/her expert communication and interaction skills.

Basics of foot orthoses.
Students analyse and assess the relationships between appropriate core concepts and make choices using the knowledge based on their own professional field. They assess the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions. Students take initiative and act in a goal-oriented manner in diverse operating environments, and they apply the working methods appropriately and safely. Students work according to professional ethics in varied situations, and act as proactive members of the group.

Second domestic language: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, Level B1.
