Objective

As a student you are able to describe physical laws and phenomena sufficiently to enable you to understand the physical operating principles of the most common methods and devices used in laboratory work. You can perform basic calculations and apply these to biomedical laboratory work. You know how to convert units, solve equations, and identify and describe mathematical dependencies.
You are able to draw conclusions from distributions. You know how to use spreadsheet software to calculate and analyse statistical parameters and correlation between variables, and interpret and assess statistical reports in laboratory work.

Content

Mechanics and mechanical applications
Thermology and applications relating to physical states
Electricity and electric phenomena
Radiation physics
Optics
Unit conversions
Significance of figures

Further information

tuition in Finnish
Students must confirm their attendance for a course implementation by being present when tuition begins or in another manner agreed with the lecturer; for example, by returning the first course assignment. Students who are unable to attend the first teaching session due to illness may also confirm their attendance by informing the lecturer of this in advance.
Physics: Check also tutorial videos found on the Internet.

Assessment framework, see the appendix.
Assessment criteria for beginners are applied.

Assessment methods and criteria

Mathematics: Test of one's own math skills in Moodle
Mathematical statistics: Exam 100% + lesson tasks must be done
Continuos assessment, home work.
Physics: Continuos assessment, home work.
Relationship between percentage of points of the maximum points and grade: grade 1 = 50% of the total max. points, 2 = 60%, 3 = 70%, 4 = 80%, 5 = 90% (Physics is 40%)(grades 0-5)
