Objective

The students will have a strong grasp of the development challenges of their selected management perspective, its methods, and practical application. They will understand the current management research and related best practices. They will possess a critical, investigative and developmental approach to management and the future of the industry.

Learning outcomes will focus on management from the student’s chosen viewpoint. The student will be able to evaluate the changes in the operating environment and predict their effects on social work and working communities. Students will be able to manage and develop the work community and its expertise in cooperation with personnel. They will be able to formulate customer-oriented grounds for the ethical and sustainable development of their work. The student will be able to work as an encouraging and productive manager. Students will know how to develop customer-oriented and inclusive services, service processes and social innovations, as well as to participate in the processes of change management. Students will be able to lead a service operations unit effectively. They will be able to network and build partnerships to ensure the sustainable success of the unit.

Content

Content will be developed according to the selected area within content management and its learning outcomes. For example, a theme could focus on workplace management, development of service processes, or service operations. The largely self-directed studies will be realized in connection with working life partners and in groups formed according to content themes. Students will research, develop and implement customer-oriented management habits, innovation processes and methods. The most recent national and international research and best practices related to the chosen theme.

• masters the principles of strategic and operative management and knows how to apply them to practice flexibly in managerial duties
• is familiar with management systems and knows how to apply them to versatile work communities, organisations and networks
• develops and manages services and service units ethically enabling their participation.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Management and development in the field of social services:
• masters the principles of strategic and operative management and knows how to apply them to practice flexibly in demanding and complex managerial situations
• is familiar with management systems and knows how to apply them to versatile work communities, organisations and networks
• develops and manages services and service units ethically and in a socially sustainable manner as well as can lead the activities of work communities in an inspiring and renewing manner.
