Objective
Students
- can implement palliative nursing in the care of terminally ill patients as well as support both the patient and significant others
- understand the phases in the care process of cancer patients and the special needs related to them
- can support the functional capacity and participation of the mentally disabled and injured clients and patients
- are able to recognize and evaluate their own actions and practices critically in the nursing of critically ill patients
- are proficient in the basic health technology required in the nursing of critically ill patients
- can act in accordance with the ethical guidelines of nursing as well as evaluate their realization in nursing

Nursing process of terminally ill patients
Nursing of dying patients and social support of significant others
Evaluation of family situation and multiprofessional cooperation
Special features of nursing of disabled patients and special features of rehabilitation
Oncological nursing and common types of cancer
Recognizing and dealing with ethical problems in the nursing of critically ill patients

Attendance at the orientation class is compulsory.
Theory classes involving assignments and seminars are of compulsory attendance
Clinical laboratory /Simulation teaching are of compulsory attendance and students are required to wear appropriate protective uniforms. Instructions given in asepsis lectures are to be obeyed during practises
The contents, assignments and evaluation in the course support the student achieveing competence required in core competencies of National final nursing exam (YleSH180op)
NOTE! Course related drug calculations and clinical labs/simulation has to be accepted prior to Development of Expertise in Nursing - Clinical Practice.
AHOT: partial AHOT decision has to be received before participating the course. Student will enroll on the course and participate in Orientation. Partial AHOT has to be presented to the course teacher before Orientation, when it is agreed how student will accomplish the required parts of the course
