Objective

Students know how to explain the function of body’s defence mechanisms against microbes. They are able to apply knowledge based on microbiology and immunology to osteopathic working diagnosis. Students use and apply their aseptic knowledge based on microbiology to their clinical practice.
Pathophysiology: 1 cr
Students know how to explain the pathogenetic mechanisms of the most common diseases, their progression and structural changes related to them at cellular and tissue level. They can describe the healing process from the perspective of pathophysiology.
Skin diseases: 1 cr
Student recognizes the symptoms and signs of the most common skin diseases and their diagnosis and treatment.
Rheumatology: 1 cr
Students understand the central joint and soft tissue changes related to autoimmune disorders. They recognise the basic symptoms of rheumatic diseases and their examination methods. Students master grounds for treating rheumatic diseases and understand the significance of multifaceted rehabilitation to rheumatic diseases.

Content

Function of body’s defence mechanisms. Creating a microbiologically safe treatment environment for patients. Basics of groups of bacteria on skin and mucosae. Normal flora of the body and its significance. Effects of antimicrobial medication on the body. Microbes causing diseases visible on skin and immunological diseases. Hand hygiene and disease transmission in osteopaths’ work. labtest.
Pathophysiology: 1 cr
Basic model of the pathophysiologic process. Central etiologic features of diseases. Progress of a disease and factors affecting it. Structural changes related to illnesses. Functional disorders of the body. General principles of the healing process. Diagnosing pathologic changes and basics of care.
Skin diseases: 1 cr
Rheumatology: 1 cr
Rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, Lyme borreliosis, psoriatic arthopathy, polymyalgia rheumatica, reactive arthritis, Reiter’s syndrome, seronegative spondyloarthropathies, Sjögren’s syndrome, scleroderma, SLE and fibromyalgia.
