Objective

The student
- knows the most common cancers and their treatment
- is able to carry out radiation theraphy in co-operation with different professional groups
- understands the side-effects of radiation therapy and is able to support and guide the cancer patient and her/his next of kin during the radiation therapy period
- understands the operation principles and usage of radiation therapy equipment
- understands radiation safety and quality assurance in radiation therapy

Radiotherapy dosing plan analysis mandatory

Content required by law:
radiotherapy equipment and methods, treatment indications, alternative treatment methods, scientific research
general principles of radiation protection (justification, optimization) in radiotherapy
biological basis of radiotherapy, cellular and molecular phenomena in tumor and normal tissue
factors modifying the effect of radiation (fractionation, time, dose rate, oxygen content, etc.)
immediate effects of radiation, late reactions of normal tissue, risks of radiotherapy
assessing and determining the radiation risk in a way that is understandable to the patient
radiotherapy dosimetry
dose planning and treatment verification
symptoms and treatment of acute radiation sickness
quality assurance, self-assessment and clinical audits
radiation protection of the patient and staff
