Objective

The student
- organizes, implements and develops the independent oral health care
- knows he radiation instructions of radiation safety and quality assurance of the panoramic tomography
- analyzes the oral health care needs of the patients at the hospital and institutions and is able to choose the intensified oral health care methods
- develops the competence of oral health care of the health care professionals in the hospital and institution environment

Content

Practical training of independent oral health care in a team at the Metropolia oral health care teaching clinic, and presentation of patent case at the seminar
Panoramic tomography and the basics of cone beam computed tomography
Practical training of oral health care in private clinics, in special health care, care of mentally disabled, special schools or rehabilitation for mental health.

Teaching methods

- theoretical studies precede every clinical training period and seminars , partly web based lectures

Completion alternatives

Opiskelija voi hyväksi lukea syventävän työelämäharjoittelun 2 viikkoa (37t. x 2).
Opiskelija on tehnyt ahot-hakemuksen tutorille hyvissä ajoin ennen harjoittelun alkua. Hyväksiluvun edellytyksenä on suuhygienistin työstä ansaittu todistus ja opiskelijan oma reflektio, jotka ovat anomuksen liitteinä. Hyväksilukea voi ainoastaan koulun ulkopuolista harjoittelua.
Poikkeuksellisesti syksy 2019 terveyskeskusharj. jaksoa pidentämällä 4 vkoa voi opetusklinikan harjoittelusta saada ahotoitua+sopimus osan kliinistä harjoittelua.
Opiskelija voi ahotoida työkokemuksellaan opetusklinikan harjoittelua. Opiskelija hoitaa väh. 5 aikuispotilasta, jonka jälkeen arvioidaan opiskelijan osaamisen taso ja lisätään potilasmäärää tarvittessa.

6 cu clinical training in Metropolia Teaching Clinic including theory lectures, reflections and assessment
2 cu Esthetics oral health care
5 cu other training surroundings for instance in private sector 80 h (about 2 weeks) and 55 h theory part and the final reflection seminar
2 cu the basics in pantomography and cone beam computed tomography in denta imaging

Further information

Before the final training period in Teaching Clinic the student has had to accomplish previous clinical training periods.
All the patients' papers have to filled by teachers.
Anesthetic form have to be approved before finishing project.
The student has to reread theory of the older studies so they could treat patients independently.
The student is expected to show expertise in seminars.
Special dentists lecturing are compulsory before starting clinical period outside of Metropolia
The student who speed up his studies has to be approved H3 before the project and been discussed with teachers.
