Content

Clinical practice includes learning laboratory and simulation studies 2.5 ects

Location and time

Clinical practice, weeks 43-50, may be done also later on as individually planned if student is not qualifying before end of year.

Materials

Vocational literature on the practice environment given in connection with theoretical studies. Also possible materials provided by the practise place.

Teaching methods

Clinical laborations and simulations are organized at the school in connection with theoretical studies prior to the internship. All previous practises are completed and accepted.
Clinical practice place is in the acute care environment chosen by the student, ambulance environment not suitable.

International connections

Clinical practice can be accomplished abroad according to Metropolia regulations. International coordinator needs to be contacted priorly well in advance. Student is responsible him/herself for exchange affairs.

Completion alternatives

NA. Recognizing of prior learning by AHOT process is possible but not recommended (work done in similar acute practise environment). AHOT application is adressed to students own tutor teacher. Needed documents: work certificate, certificate of the hours completed (NOTE! 320 hours of nursing work!) and self-evaluation of syudents own competence reflected to the aims of the practise. AHOT application must be left for TUTOR teacher well beforehand before the practise during theoretical studies. Ahot-application can also cover the practise partially but in cannot be done during practise but before.

Practise can also be accomplished as a nursing work (paid practise) and practise placement is in acute nursing environments like unpaid practise. Normal practise principles are being followed (evaluations, teacher tutoring, forms, possible assignments).

Student workload

Clinical practice is 15 ECTS which contains labs and simulations at the school. The practice is 8 weeks eg. 320 hours. During the training, the working methods, shifts and general principles of the work community are followed in connection with the training. During the practice there is a written assignment (research club), separate instruction will be given about it during theory studies. Assignment work is not included in practise hours.
Possible absence from practise is negotiated with the teacher and hours missed must be replaced during practise, 8 weeks time cannot be strecthed.

Opiskelija on noudattanut työyhteistön toimintatapoja ja saavuttanut asetetut tavoitteet harjoittelun aikana. Lisäksi opiskelija on tehnyt harjoittelun aikana vaadittavan tuntimäärän.

Content scheduling

Practice is programmed for autumn 2021, weeks 43-50. If a student will graduate in December, the practice must be completed before the graduation date. Practise can be marked as accomplished in Oma in advance if teacher and student`s workplace mentor agree that practise is going as expected and will be approved.

Further information

Labs / simulations and drug calculations test must be completed before the practice starts. If student fails in drug calculations test (3 attempts) practise may have to be cancelled/postponed.
