Objective

Students will understand the phenomena related to child protection. They will acknowledge the uniqueness of the client group and its needs. Students will able to apply key fundamental concepts, legislation and services. They will identify the most important work practices and evaluate the current debate related to child protection. They will be able to reflect on their own professional activity.

Content

The child's role in changing society. United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Work values and princi-ples of child welfare. Preventive child welfare. The child protection process. Child welfare legislation for securing fundamental individual rights. Practices of preventive work, as well as child and family-specific work.
The study unit includes four hours of guidance for professional growth.

Materials

Course material is given in orientation and is available in Moodle.

Teaching methods

Max.35 students will be admitted to the course in the order of enrollment (SXG20S1 students first).

Contact teaching takes place depending on the Covid-19 recommendations.

The course includes lectures and preliminary assignments, more detailed content and schedule will be given in orientation.

Changes are possible.

Teaching takes place both as contact teaching on campus at separately announced times and as remote lectures via Zoom or Teams at separately announced times. The teaching of contact teaching days is based on active discussion and interaction, and the achievement of competence goals requires contact teaching in these areas. In remote learning, interactive conversation situations require the use of a camera.
