Objective

Students
- can explain factors related to family health
- can apply the principles and methods of family-oriented nursing
- can plan and implement screenings and health examinations of child growth and development as well as refer the child to further examinations if necessary
- can apply work methods of health promotion to support the growth and development of the child, family lifestyle as well as parenthood and couple relationship
- can support parents in early interaction between the child and parents in a resource-oriented way
- can identify signs of unfavourable development in the child, family and living environment as early as possible and can intervene with factors threatening health and refer clients to increased support
- can carry out family counselling
- are familiar with the methods of outreach nursing
- are capable of multi-actor collaboration.

Promotion of healthy lifestyle of the child and family
Diverse families as clients of the public health nurse
Work methods of health promotion in needs analysis, early intervention and supporting resources of the client
Follow-up methods of child development and growth: health interview, health examinations and screenings
Lene – the evaluation method of children’s neurological development
Evaluation process of the results regarding follow-up of growth and development of children, early detection of abnormalities and referral to further treatment
Parent support on special questions related to child development and growth
Early interaction and its support
Family counselling, supporting couple relationship
Detecting unfavourable and difficult situations related to children and families, supporting families
Outreach work to find families not using health services
Medical studies: special questions related to growth and development (0.5 ects)
