Objective

Students will become familiar with the history of elderly care and its impact on the current work situation. They will be able to identify the main orientations in multi-professional elderly care. Students will recognise comprehensive competence as the starting point of elderly care. They will recognise the importance of the self-determination, the operating environment, interaction and partnership in empowering elder care. Students will be able to identify their own professionalism as future professionals of elderly care through the adopt-an-old-person programme.

Content

History and development of Elderly Care. Central concepts and theories of gerontological social work, nursing and rehabilitation. Multi-professional elderly care. Resource-based elderly care. The self-determination, rights and autonomy of the elderly. Ethics, responsibility and growth of professionalism in elderly care. Interaction in elderly care. Internship: long-term adopt-an-old-person programme (1.5 credits).
