Objective

Students are able to describe the phases of the podiatry process and utilise this knowledge in the planning and implementation of podiatric treatment as well as in the written assignments of work placements.
They know how to make podiatric diagnoses and differential diagnoses to find causes for problems.

Students are aware of the health record and case history system and the obligation to keep records and are able to enter the necessary details on the customer information system. They know how to make referrals and provide feedback of podiatry and thus understand the significance of multiprofessionalism as part of the holistic treatment of clients.

Students know how to use equipment and tools of podiatry safely and properly. They are able to describe the principles of aseptic techniques and comply with the high quality aseptic procedures with clients. Students are familiar with the principles of equipment maintenance and are able to ensure a high level of equipment maintenance and use the equipment safely. hey can describe requisites for operating a podiatric unit and are able to apply this knowledge to planning, initiating and maintaining podiatry in the public sector or as practitioners after their graduation.

Students identify various skin and nail symptoms and know how to assess their level of severity and extent from the perspective of podiatry. They are able to choose the suitable methods for treatment and the appropriate external medication to support the treatment. Students are capable of describing the pathogenetic mechanism of the skin and nail changes. They perceive the treatment of the skin and nail problems as part of client’s podiatric care. Students are familiar with the most common dermatological diseases and skin and nail changes related to them as well as the main methods of treatment. They are able to describe the potential podiatry has to offer in treating dermatological patients.

Students are able to make different types of foot orthoses of suitable material to alleviate clients’ discomfort or diseases. Students are capable of using various toe orthotic materials and know how to prepare individual protective and corrective orthoses meeting the needs of the clients. Students perceive orthotic therapy as part of podiatry. Students know the basics of usage of different kind of supporing orthoses and are able to advice clients how to choose and use them.

Students are familiar with the principles of pharmacology. They can describe the indications and effects of use of medicines most important to podiatry as well as identify product names of medicines. Students are aware of drug interaction and the most common side effects of medicines relevant to podiatry.
