Objective

Students use different types of funtional capacity measurements and can assess the reliability of the measurements and measurement devices they have used. Students are able to describe the features of an ideal posture in various age groups and explain the mechanism of control and regulation. Students master the assessment of alignment of the lower limbs and assessments carried out by a foot mirror as well as know how to conduct plantar pressure measurements and describe these findings.

Students are able to carry out a clinical examination of the feet, find out about self-care habits of the client and assess footwear and pain. Students know how to use the coding system of foot diseases in their client documents and are familiar with the laboratory and radiological examinations supporting podiatry to the extent that they can refer clients to these examinations.

Students explain the functions of lower extremity joints during the gait cycle. They are able to describe how the foot alternately functions as a flexible bearer of weight load and as a rigid lever arm. They analyse the alternation of concentric and eccentric muscle action by muscle group during the gait cycle. Students are able to explain the roles of trunk and upper extremity movements in walking.

Students are able to describe the pathogenetic mechanism of the most common diseases, their development and structural changes at cellular and tissue level as well as the basics of the healing process from the perspective of pathophysiology.

Students understand the modern concept of mental health and capacity, perceive a human being as a psychophysical whole and understand the significance of mental health resources to the wellbeing and adaptation of human life. They recognise multi-faceted signs of crisis related to traumas and difficult situations in life and are able to meet clients’ needs by supportive measures in these situations. Students show competence in good encountering of clients with mental problems. They recognise the most common mental health disorders, know how to assess their own limits of competence and refer clients to mental health care services required by the problems. Students are familiar with the essential parts of the mental health legislation in reference to the services of various age groups.
