Objective
Students are able to describe the characteristics of healthy feet and lower limbs and detect changes in them when assessing clients of various ages. Students are aware of the relation between health of the feet and genetics, age and illnesses and apply this knowledge to the assessment of their clients’ feet. Students are able to describe the subcategories of self-care of the feet so that they can apply them to the modification of clients’ self-care habits. Students can recommend appropriate shoes and stockings for different client groups for different purposes.
Students know how to plan and implement education and counselling sessions supporting and promoting self-care of feet for individual clients and client groups by using appropriate didactic solutions. They know how to produce high-quality teaching material, which meets the client’s requirements.
Students identify lower extremity muscles. They explain the movements caused by these, understanding the roles of their origin and attachment points in both the open and the closed kinetic chain. Students are able to describe the locations of leg and foot muscles in detail. They analyse the effects of muscles on ankle movements and maintenance of foot arches in particular. They identify the key muscles of the trunk and describe their functions in skeletal movements. Students refer to structures using professional terminology of foreign origin. Students identify the organs of the key organ systems and explain their functions in general terms.
Students can palpate various anatomical structures and describe them using variable palpation. Students are able to describe the therapeutic effects of massage and apply massage as part of podiatric treatment by using various massage strokes techniques.
