Objective
To fabricate prostheses and orthoses, students use the essential machinery and equipment correctly. They use them safely and are aware of their operating principles. Students choose the appropriate method and tool for the work process. They make sure their working environment is safe and enables the use of aseptic protocols. Students describe the materials, their characteristics and performance in different phases of the manufacturing process. They combine various materials and consider safety issues concerning work and environment. Students are aware of the financial perspective and cost-effectiveness when choosing materials and work methods. Students know how to use materials in a versatile way and know how to acquire materials from suppliers. Students have first aid skills, and they work in accordance with the rules and regulations on work safety.
Students describe the prosthetic and orthotic services as part of the Finnish social and health care service system. They classify the tasks and actions of prosthetic and orthotic services from the perspective of individuals, community and society. Students describe core competence areas of prosthetics and orthotics as well as central concepts. Students familiarize themselves with their profession and that of others in diverse operating environments. Students describe the laws, decrees and acts directing their work and act accordingly. They are able to recognize the areas of high-quality and effective prosthetic services and are committed to developing them as part of the development of their own expertise. Students describe the major development needs of prosthetics and orthotics from the perspective of individuals, community and society.
