Objective

The student
- justifies and evaluates palliative care based on the person-centred concept.
- develops palliative care by utilizing the perspectives of the patient, his/her next of kin, culture, art and community.
- develops the support of patient's empowerment in the framework of palliative care
- recognizes the action of multicultural communities in palliative care.
- adapts the basis of person-centred palliative care in planning and implementation, considering the patient individually and as a member of his/her community.
- enhances the understanding of palliative care in society nationally and globally.
- promotes the realization of the principles of equality, social justice, participation in palliative care and services.

Content scheduling

The course consists of four themes and related tasks:
- people-centreness (task 1)
- empowering patient education (task 2)
- cultural perspective in palliative care (task 3)
- images of death in the media (tasks 4a and 4b)

The literature can be found in the source lists of the lecture slides. The course is designed so that it can be completed at your own pace during the course. It is recommended to proceed in the order offered. All tasks have the same return date on March 14, 2021 (note: task 4a return times), so please take care of your own schedule. My own polytechnic may deviate from the general schedule and arrange its own contact teaching.

The course is designed so that it can be completed largely independently of time and place. Each school can arrange its own contact teaching. The school informs its students about possible contact teaching and deviating return times for assignments.

Recognition of prior learning

The student can apply for the recognition of prior learning and receive an approval for accreditation
for this course if he/she has acted in a key role in digitalisation-related service production or client
projects in social and health care, or in digitalising key processes, and/or has completed universitylevel
studies that correspond to the content of this course.
