Objective
The student will be able to identify different categories of furniture, their special features and qualifications. She/He will be able to evaluate and compare different functional and structural solutions. The student can take into account ergonomical standards in furniture design. The student will master all different phases of furniture design and will be able to utilize model building as part of the design process. The student will be able to make technical drawings of his/her designs. The student will be able to use machinery and tools with guidance in the wood workshop.
Content
• Furniture categories: special features and demands
• Principles of furniture design: functions, structures, materials, proportions, ergonomics and user centered design
• Design process: definition of objectives, creation, sketching, scale model, mock-up, prototype, technical drawings
• Wood workshop: wood materials, machinery and tools
• Documentation and presentations

The student has partially achieved the objectives of the course. The student outlines the whole related to loose furniture design with its associated components. The student knows their significance as part of the quality of the final design work. During the course, the student is able to take into account different aspects of loose furniture design in his / her own work. He has completed the duties approved.

The student knows the importance of the components as part of the quality of the final design work. During the course, the student is able to use and apply different areas of loose furniture design in his / her own work. The student has excellently achieved the objectives of the course. The student masters the ensemble of loose furniture design with its associated components.
