Objective

The student knows how to act as part of a band. The student is proficient in the different styles of rhythm & blues, perceiving their own role in the band as both accompanist and soloist. Using their own instrument, the student is able to play/sing basic rhythm & blues repertoire from different eras by heart. The student is capable of taking on the responsibilities related to working in a group. The student develops their interaction skills and can reflect on their own work and that of others, as well as express themselves both verbally and in writing. The student is able to produce and interpret musical notation and knows the basics of rhythm & blues improvisation.

Rhythm Blues Projektin sisältöä 2021
Laajuus: 5 op. (WS + Ensemble)


Vuosikymmenet:
1950, 1960 ja 1970


Tyypillisiä piirteitä R&B tyyliselle ohjelmistolle:
- Blues tonaliteetti ja äänenväri
- Soolot ja improvisointi
- Afro-amerikkalainen rytmiikka
- Tanssittavuus & rytminen jatkumo

WORK SHOP: 3 op.

Kontaktiopetus: 12 x 90min.
Torstaisin klo 14:45-16:15

Arvioitavaan esitykseen valmistetaan(yhteensä 5 WS bändiä):
- 3 yhteistä sävellystä, I Got a Woman, Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag, Isn’t She Lovely
- kaksi (2) sävellystä per vuosikymmen
- neljä vapaavalintaista sävellystä (tyylin puitteissa)
- ohjelmisto esitetään ulkoa

Lukukauden aikana jokainen yhtyeen jäsen tuo yhden tai kaksi transkriptoimaansa sävellystä yhtyetunnille sekä harjoituttaa yhtyeen ko. sävellyksen esitykseen.
Jokainen opiskelija valmistautuu myös kertomaan biisinsä historiaa ja merkitystä.


ENSEMBLE: 2 op.

- Opettaja-muusikko valitsee esitettävän taiteellisen kokonaisuuden
- lyhytperiodi työskentelyä 20h kontaktia kaikkineen
- noin 2-5 harjoituskertaa (pidempiä)
- opettajamuusikko soittaa yhtyeessä mukana, jos mahdollista.
- Esiintyminen Torstai 16.12.2021 esim. Rhythm Blues Backhanalissa – Cafe Mascot
- Pirjo Aittomäki kerää ohjelmistot, muusikot ja bändien nimet etc. markkinointimateriaalit opettajilta suoraan.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

In order to receive an approved grade, the student:
- Has completed the set assignments according to schedule
- Is able to work also independently in practicing the repertoire
- Has learned the performed repertoire to a satisfactory level, for example is able to perform it from memory, if necessary
- Is able to act as part of a band and communicate their own musical views
- Is able to use means of expression typical of their instrument and the selected repertoire
- Can perform and communicate with the band and the audience
- Understands their role in a band and can communicate their own musical views.
