Objective

After completing the course, the student will be able to recognize and describe important problem areas in regard to cultural management and can define a theme of interest for the Bachelor's Thesis. The student will be able to prepare a feasible written working plan and to present the objectives of his/her thesis and the plan in a thesis seminar. The student will be able to argue for his/her choice of methods and content. The student’s ability to work in cooperation and to communicate professionally with representatives of working life, supervisors and other students will be developed.
The student will be able to reflect upon his/her Bachelor's Thesis in relation to what he/she has learned and to deal with the theme in an analytical manner from the chosen perspective. The student will be able to place his/her work in a broader practical and/or theoretical context. The student will demonstrate his/her learning in factual writing. During this period, independent progress and the production of results and plans will be combined. The student’s research and development-oriented approach will be reinforced. The student will be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of his/her working process.
The student will be able to present the project in oral form and will be able to argue for his/her choices. After the approval of the Bachelor's Thesis, the student completes a maturity test indicating fluent linguistic expression and familiarity with the subject matter of the thesis.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The thesis is a superficial process report that has only little significance to the student and the commissioner. The student has a command of his/her subject with the guidance of a tutor and is able to make only few independent solutions. Methods, data collecting and analyzing and use of literature are superficial. Although project presentation is not well prepared, the student is able to accomplish the maturity test that demonstrates his/her language skills and understanding of the thesis themes.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The focus of the work has been placed well and some goals of the thesis have been reached. The thesis has significance to the student and the commissioner. The working process is controlled. The use of research and development methods is organized. The student is able to answer to research questions. There is diverse in the research material and the processing of the material is well organized. The student is able to make some independent solutions and argue for his/her solutions. The presentation of results is explicit. The sources are cited right. The thesis includes exemplified illustration. Structure of the thesis is systematic. The linguistic form is well formulated. Layout of the thesis is good. The student is able to accomplish the maturity test that demonstrates his/her language skills and understanding of the thesis themes.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The focus of the work has been placed successfully and some new knowledge has been accomplished. The thesis benefits the commissioner and also the field of cultural management. The working process is well controlled. The use of research and development methods is skillful and information has been gathered independently and successfully from several sources of information. The thesis includes independent solutions that have been done in a creative and original manner. The presentation of results is explicit and they have been thought over and justified proficiently. The thesis includes exemplified illustration and the linguistic form is well formulated. The student succeeds to present the thesis results in a skillful and illustrative manner. The student is able to accomplish the maturity test that demonstrates his/her language skills and understanding of the thesis themes.

Assessment methods and criteria

The grade of the thesis is given by the official evaluator of the thesis, who is not the supervisor of the thesis. The assessment criteria are in accordance with Metropolia's assessment framework and can be found on the student's desk: Studies / studies and graduation.
