Objective

The objective of the Bachelor’s Thesis is to develop and illustrate the ability of the student to apply professional skills and knowledge to the assignments related to the studies. The students learn and carry out development work when conducting the Bachelor’s Thesis at Metropolia based on researched knowledge and other evidence. Development work refers to building up one’s professional competence or professional practices.
On completion of the Bachelor’s Thesis, the students will be able to:
• identify the problematics and needs for development in the field and plan for their solutions
• use reliable and confined information from various sources in the development work
• apply professional skills and knowledge and use appropriate methods and practices for the development task
• execute a development project useful for the work life or the profession in an independent and responsible way in collaboration with others.
• communicate in different stages of the work both to the peers and to the other audiences in a clear, well argumented, and illustrative manner
• report the results of the work, assess them and bring forth proposals for improvement

- Data acquisition and applying theoretical information into practice

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are able to carry out a project in design, research or development. The students can describe and illustrate the work process. The students are able to work fairly unsupervised and can justify their reasoning and reflection. The design and research merits of the work are satisfactory. The layout, the linguistic form, and clarity are satisfactory. The performance skills in the seminars is satisfactory.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are able to plan and execute a Bachelor's Thesis independently. The work may be a project in design, research or a product development. The students can describe, analyse and illustrate their thesis well. The students are able to work unsupervised and can reflect their own decicions. The design and research merits of the work are good. The layout and the linguistic form of the work are good. The presentation and argumentation skills in the seminars is good.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are able to plan and execute the Bachelor's Thesis unsupervised. The project may consist of design, research, or product development. The students can describe, analyse and illustrate their thesis professionally. The students are able to work unsupervised and can critically argue and justify their reasoning and reflections. The design and the research merits of the work are distinguished. The layout, the linguistic form and the clarity of the work are excellent. The presentation and argumentation skills in the seminars are professional and excellent.

The students are able to carry out a design project, a research project or a product development project. The students can describe and illustrate a thesis. The students are able to work independently and can justify their reasoning and reflections. The design and research merits of the work are satisfactory. The layout, the linguistic form, and clarity are satisfactory. The presentation skills in the seminars is satisfactory.
