Objective

The student recognizes the benefits of user-driven product design. The student can define how user data is utilised in product and service design, describe the perspectives of user experience and identify the methods of user interface design and user testing. The student can utilise and apply user testing methods.

During the course the students are familiarised with the concepts and processes of service design. The student learns to use the methods of design in service development. The student deciphers what material or immaterial benefits the customers are actually pursuing through the service. The student can design the service content and its implementation to produce value for the customer.

The student deepens their knowledge of service design and the interactive relationships between the service provider and the service user. The student recognises the significance of design to the quality of the product and takes into account the factors that affect the quality and price of the service. The student recognises the differences between standardised and non-standardised services.

The student recognises and analyses problems related to service design and applies learned practises when producing a service concept.

The student recognizes and is able to describe the stages of product and service design. The student is able to utilize essential information about user-oriented product and service design. The student masters the use of key concepts and methods in product and service design and is able to apply them. The student knows the role of design and designer in the development of service products. The student knows about project work in the development of service products. The student is able to implement product and service design projects in cooperation with others.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student compares, analyzes and utilizes relevant information about user-oriented product and service design. He has a good command of the use of concepts and methods that are central to product and service design and is able to apply them in a variety of ways. The student has a good command of design and the role of the designer in the development of service products. The student has the ability to apply the learned knowledge of project work in the development of service products and reflect on it. The student is able to implement product and service design projects in cooperation with others.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student critically evaluates and justifies the stages of product and service design in various ways. The student analyzes and critically evaluates relevant information and skillfully applies it in user-oriented product and service design. He / she has an excellent command of the use of concepts and methods that are central to product and service design and is able to apply them in a versatile and innovative way. The student extensively masters the role of design and designer in the development of service products. The student has the ability to apply a wide range of learned information about project work in the development of service products and reflect on it. The student is able to produce new knowledge for the teaching. The student is able to implement product and service design projects in a variety of ways in cooperation with others.
