Objective

The aim of the course is to develop the student’s music pedagogy expertise.
• The student is able to evaluate and develop their own pedagogical practices.
• The student can implement structured pedagogical interaction with different kinds of groups.
• The student can construct the learning process based on the strengths of the learners and the group.
• The student knows the current pedagogical research and is able to utilize it in their own professional activities.
• The student knows the current curricula of music education, can analyze their pedagogical bases and can apply them to their own professional activities.

Content

Pedagogical developmental work. Leading a group. The strengths of the learner and the group as the basis of teaching. Current pedagogical research. Current curricula of music education. Practical pedagogical experimentations.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to evaluate and develop their own pedagogical practices. The student is able to implement pedagogically well-founded and structured interaction situations. The student is able to lead a group taking into account the strengths of the group members. The student knows the current pedagogical research and the curricula in music education, and can utilize them in their own professional activities.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to evaluate, develop and reflect on their own pedagogical practices diversely. The student is able to implement pedagogically well-founded and insightful interaction situations with many kinds of groups. The student is able to use various methods in leading groups, basing the teaching on the strengths of the group members. The student knows well the current pedagogical research and the curricula in music education, and can utilize them analytically in their own professional activities.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to evaluate, develop and reflect on their own pedagogical practices and music pedagogy diversely. The student is able to implement pedagogically well-founded and exceptionally insightful interaction situations with many kinds of groups. The student is able to use various methods in leading groups to notice their own strengths and to use these strengths as basis for development. The student knows comprehensively current pedagogical research and the curricula in music education, and is able to analyze critically their bases and needs for development. The student can apply pedagogical research and the curriculum to their own professional activities as well as to the general development of music pedagogy.
