Objective
Students plan and implement their research and development project systematically. They are able to search for information in their area of specialization using Finnish and English language sources. Students process and evaluate information critically. They use information technology and learn the fundamentals of generally known, reliable research and development methods. Students create networks and partnerships. During the project, they apply the professional ethics of their field and pertinent research and development methods.

Students recognize how their project connects with their profession and its development. Students use the information they have acquired only to a minor extent. Students resort to solutions offered by their supervisor. The work is completed in spite of deficiencies in project management. Cooperation with various partners is satisfactory.

The project clearly develops a specific are of the profession.
The topic is innovative. Students carry out the project appropriately, using their competence, knowledge and pertinent research and development methods. The knowledge base is relevant and students describe and justify their choices and professional learning. They plan the project meticulously and stay on schedule. Collaboration between the supervisor, students and the industry is fruitful.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The thesis brings something completely new to the profession – an innovation or a new way of working. The implementation includes elements of exceptional accomplishment and innovation.
The work may be multi-disciplinary. The planning and implementation of the process is highly consistent and convincing and proactive. Active networking within the Master’s programme and elsewhere enriches the whole process.
