3. Business Development Compentence.
Each module of the curriculum produces and enhances the Master’s student’s competence in these areas. For further learning outcomes, please see the course descriptions of the courses in the curriculum.
In addition, generic competences as described in the EQF7/NQF7, will be met with. These are: Learning Competence; Ethical Competence; Working Community Competence; Innovation Competence; as well as Internationalization Competence.
The graduates have gained deeper insight into business management areas such as management and leadership, accounting, logistics, or marketing. Thanks to the international scope of studies, the graduates are comfortable with working in international/global organisations and networks.
The degree obtained is of the Master’s level. It is up to the Institution of Higher Education which offers further education (licentiate/doctorate) to decide on the eligibility.
According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences course assessment criteria are specified in the course implementation plan. The teacher in charge of the course will be responsible for the assessment. Students must be informed at the beginning of the course on the assessment principles, which must be based on the course objectives. Assessment takes primarily place for each course and applies to the students who have registered and been accepted on the course. If necessary, different components of a course may be assessed individually. If the course consists of several components, the teacher may point this out in the assessment principles contained in the implementation plan.
The assessment scale is as follows: excellent (5), very good (4), good (3), very satisfactory (2), satisfactory (1), fail (0) and pass (P). Any deviations of this scale will be decided by the President.
All studies indicated in the curriculum of the Master’s Degree Programme in Business Informatics must be successfully completed.
When studying on a part-time basis, the student can achieve the Master’s degree in 1,5 years, however with flexibility both ways. Contact sessions take place on Thursday evenings and/or on Fridays, approximately twice a month. Occasional Saturday workshops may take place. Various forms of e-learning will also be applied. The language of instruction is English.
Master's Degree (Second Cycle)
A natural network is built among the Master’s students themselves who represent working life. This network is supported by the University of Applied Sciences in many ways throughout the studies. All lecturers in the Master’s team have a strong business and professional background; their contacts add greatly to the implementation of the Master’s programme. A Steering Group consisting of top directors and experts in business life gives valuable insight into curriculum development, for example. The nationwide network of Master’s educators aligns certain policies and practices as part of quality assurance. Similar discussions are carried with the carefully selected international partner institutions of higher education.
Both vertical and horizontal career paths are likely to take place, even before the Master’s studies have been completed. Especially for the international students of this Master’s programme, a good networking opportunity arises via peer students, many of whom work in influential positions in business life. Increase in international competences opens up new opportunities, too.
The network of international partner universities offers opportunities for short term and semester exchange. Study trips to selected destinations are organised annually (linkage to the Curriculum). The Master’s Summer School is a form of internationalization where visiting professors offer new insights. Collaboration across Master’s student groups in various disciplines adds to international understanding.
