Description

Health and health promotion are current themes in the discussion of social and health policy issues worldwide, and the same applies to Europe and Finland. The government resolution on the 'Health 2015' public health programme outlines the targets for Finland's national health policy.

Promotion of health and well-being of population is a broad, developing and multidisciplinary field, and its focus changes according to the social needs. Health promotion may be viewed from the perspective of an individual, community and society as well as from the perspective of promotion and prevention. Moreover, the viewpoint may be political or cultural.

Health promotion requires not only broad and multidisciplinary mastery of the content and methods but also competence in planning, evaluation, anticipation, development and leadership.

Competences of the Degree Programme in Health Promotion
Health promotion requires not only broad and multidisciplinary mastery of the content and methods but also competence in planning, evaluation, anticipation, development and leadership. The national forum on the master's degree programmes at universities of applied sciences has reached a conclusion concerning the competences in degree programmes in health promotion and their descriptions:

1. Competence in detailed knowledge of promoting health and welfare
2. Competence in detailed knowledge of methods promoting health and welfare
3. Multi-professional leadership competence in promoting health and welfare
4. Development competence in promoting health and welfare

Implementation of studies
The credit value of the master's degree programme is 90 ECTS credits (cr). The degree programme can be completed in 1 ½ years.
