Design of Concrete StructuresLaajuus (5 ECTS)
Course unit code: TR00CO07
General information
- Credits
- 5 ECTS
Objective
Student is familiar with the behaviour of pre- and post tensioned Structures and is able to design ordinary tensioned structures. He/she knows the production methods of pre/post tensioned structures and most commonly used materials and systems.
Student is able to solve structures with Strut and Tie method.
Student is able to design the overall stability of a building and knows how to determine the loads of a stabilising system.
Student is familiar with the principles of accidental load case structural design. He/she is able to take in to account both all predictable and unpredictable accidental situations and design the necessary tie system accordingly.
Content
Pretensioned prestressed concrete structures
Post-tensioned prestressed concrete structures
Stability of buildings
Strut and Tie method
Structural design against accidental loads
Tie systems in buildings
Qualifications
Basics studies of structural mechanics and the design of concrete structures(B.Sc. level)
Master's Degree level Structural Mechanics
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The Student can
- explain the behaviour of pre/post stressed structure and the issues to be considered in manufacturing of them
- take the pre/post tensioned structures into account in design of other structures
- explain the strut and tie method in design of non-continuous parts of structures
- design ties according to EN 1992-1-1
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The Student can in addition to those described above
- design common per/post tensioned structures
- design simple structures with strut and tie method
- determine the consequence class of a building for accidental design purposes
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The Student can in addition to those described above
- solve natural frequencies and response of SDOF and continuous system
- solve structure by using FEM program and assess correctness of results
- explain theoretical background of FEM used in analysis of beams
- design accidental load situations according to EN 1991-1-7
