Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning

According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences students may apply for identification and accreditation of prior learning as part of their compulsory or optional studies, provided they have prior learning corresponding to the curriculum before the course in question begins.

Profile of the programme

Master Programme in Health Business Management is a joint programme with students from both Engineering and from Health Care and Social Services. The emphasis of the programme is on customer and on service business orientation.
The programme has a multidisciplinary approach to business management and health care areas such as accounting, leadership, or evidence-based nursing practice and all studies are linked to health care organizations.

Master's Degree in Health Business Management qualifies for team and project leadership in health care services business and advancement towards management positions in the private or public sector.

The Master's Programme in Health Business Management will focus on service-, customer-, and business-orientation in health care organizations to educate professionals with business managerial competences required in health care organizations in the future.
Health Business Master Programme focuses on five topics:

International studies are part of the learning path of each learner in the form of international studies in English or Finnish master’s degree programmes or open studies in international network learning environments.

Specific admission requirements

The applicants need to fulfil these requirements:
-Bachelor Degree in Nursing, Health Care, Engineering, Business Administration, Management or other suitable Bachelor degree
-fluent in English (C1 English level)
-at least three years of work experience.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences course assessment criteria are specified in the course implementation plan. The teacher in charge of the course will be responsible for the assessment. Students must be informed at the beginning of the course on the assessment principles, which must be based on the course objectives. Assessment takes primarily place for each course and applies to the students who have registered and been accepted on the course. If necessary, different components of a course may be assessed individually. If the course consists of several components, the teacher may point this out in the assessment principles contained in the implementation plan.
The assessment scale is as follows: excellent (5), very good (4), good (3), very satisfactory (2), satisfactory (1), fail (0) and pass (P). Any deviations of this scale will be decided by the President.

Mode of study

Master students of Health Business Management study on a part-time basis. Students achieve their degree in 1,5-2 years. For Engineering students the programme is 60 ECTS credits and for Health Care and Social Services students it is 90 ECTS credits. The engineering students complete the thesis of 30 ECTS credits and 30 ECTS credits from the studies offered.
