Objective

Upon completion of the course, the student will be familiar with advanced mastering techniques. The student will be able to identify mastering techniques of different styles of music.

Content

Additional effects such as reverb in mastering. Noise removal and recording restoration. Analogue tape processing with real tape and simulators. Mastering multichannel audio. The mastering techniques of different styles of music.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• attends lessons
• understands the workflow of the mastering process for different styles of music
• knows the basics of stereo and multichannel mastering
• understands how to combine analog and digital processing

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition, the student:
• knows how to calibrate a mastering chain that includes analog processing
• understands different dithering types
• is able to use analog tape in mastering

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition, the student:
• is able to create professional-grade masters for various styles of music
• knows how to master multichannel audio
