Objective

Information technology 1 cr:
Students are able to manage files and folders (including packing and creating a digital portfolio) as well as understand the difference between various locations for saving data. Students can utilise the basic functions of network learning environments (Tuubi, Moodle) and distant use of network discs. Students understand the basics of data security and know how to apply them. Students master writing according to the standard format and the basic tools necessary for word processing as well as know how to apply them. Students are competent to draw up simple presentations with a graphics programme.

Finnish and communication 2 cr:
Students are capable of acquiring knowledge from professional sources and evaluate their reliability as well as utilise the acquired knowledge in their studies and work tasks. Students identify various communication circumstances in studies and the workplace environment as well as different text types and their objectives. Students understand the significance of communication to research and development and want to enhance their professional communication and interaction activities.

Content

Information technology 1 cr:
Equipment and network environment, data management, data security, tools of network learning (Tuubi, Moodle, distant use of network discs), basic tools of word processing and standard format (Word), basics of presentation graphics (PowerPoint)

Finnish and communication 2 cr:
Reading professional text types, writing texts and formatting them; reporting, paraphrasing and e-communication, research article as a text type
Basics of research and development communication: data acquisition and data management process, use of references, their documentation and evaluation
Basics of planning and visualisation of oral presentations
Acting professionally in the network

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Information technology 1 cr.
Managing files and folders: The student can save files in the correct format in the right place.
Basic tools of word processing and standard format: The student knows how to use the word processing tools appropriately and can produce a document in the standard format.
Network learning environments: The student can use the network learning environments needed in the studies.
Data security: The student masters the basics of data security and knows how to apply them.
Basics of presentation graphics: The student can prepare a simple presentation with slides, modify it and choose suitable means for printing it.
