On completion of this course the student is able to:
- explain the basic phenomena in optics, modern and atomic physics
- understands how the modern optical and semiconductor devices work
- solve problems related to optics, modern and atomic physics

- Reflection, refraction, interference and diffraction
- Basics of modern and atomic physics
- Applications of optics, modern and atomic physics

Qualifications

- Engineering Mathematics I, II and III
- Engineering Physics I and II

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
- understands the basic phenomena in optics, modern and atomic physics and is able to explain and present them clearly to his/her peers

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to satisfactory criteria the student:
- can analyse a modern optical or semiconductor device and understands the relationship of its parts to the whole system

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to good criteria the student:
- has a clear understanding of the different realms of physics and their applications in both natural and technological systems
- can apply his/her acquired knowledge and skills in various situations, and
- has mastered the technical aspects in physical problem solving

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student:
- understands the basic phenomena in optics, modern and atomic physics and is able to explain and present them clearly to his/her peers
