Objective

On completion of the course the student will be familiar with the basics of hydraulic engineering and infrastructures connected to water construction. He or she will be familiar with the special needs of Helsinki area in the future.

Content

Basics of hydraulics and hydrology. Dams and hydro-electric power plants. Harbours and waterways. Piers and shore constructions, marinas. The concepts of environmental hydraulic engineering and restoration. Waterworks and dredging.

The student will be able to describe the operation principles of the most common hydraulic structures and the methods of hydraulic engineering.

The student is able to apply the above listed, learned knowledge and skills independently.
