Objective

The student will know the structure of planet Earth, gravity field, magnetic field and atmosphere associated with the physical and geophysical properties and phenomena, with particular importance for geodesy, remote sensing and the surveying engineering point of view.

Content

Planet Earth’s shape, dimensions, gravity field, geoid, tectonic structure and movements (Plate tectonics). Motion in the gravitational field, Kepler's laws, Newton's laws, satellite orbital motion. The Earth's magnetic field. Atmosphere and radiation in the atmosphere. Weather, climate, climate change and its anticipated effects.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student understands the key meaning of geophysics to geodesy, remote sensing and land surveying techniques.
