Objective

The student has basic knowledge of different electricity production, distribution and consumption methods. The student understands the basics of electrical safety, such as grounding, different types of networks and protection against electric shock. The student can handle basic 3 – phase circuit calculations and understands the operating principles of electrical machines and apparatus. The student is familiar with distribution networks, power measurement methods, electric motor controlling and power current switching through laboratory exercises. The student is also able to measure 3 – phase systems and test the operation of circuit protection apparatus. The personal project includes a written portion.

Content

Production and consumption of electricity, power transmission and distribution networks and their automation / protection. Network calculation basics. Basics on electric safety regulations, electric currents’ impact on a human. Transformers and electric apparatus; principles and continuous operation. Electricity sales and service business, responsibilities in the service field. Basics of electromagnetism, electrical drives and power electronics.

Qualifications

Electrical Engineering Basics, Basic s of Automation Laboratory Work and Electrical Engineering of Automation - course recommended.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
