Television Scriptwriting and Concept DevelopmentLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

Students know the genres of television programmes. They know the fundamentals of television narrative and dramaturgy and are able to apply their knowledge into their work in various types of factual programmes. Students master the collaborative process of scriptwriting for television. They know how to read scripts for different factual TV programmes. Students know how to create a concept for a factual TV programme.

Students specializing in journalism are capable of researching a current event, observing a social phenomenon and using their observations in generating ideas and programme topics. Students are capable of writing a script of a factual TV programme.

Students specializing in production know various theories on scriptwriting. They know how to analyze, assess and give feedback on a script. They know how to edit a news text for different media. They know how to pitch a programme concept and to produce a presentation kit.

Students specializing in television directing command the principles of scriptwriting and dramatization, are capable of organizing a production team, scheduling a project and supervising production crew.

Completing the course with a pass grade requires that a student has met the objectives of the course as defined in the course implementation.
