Objective
On completion of the course the student will be able to present his or her skills to an employer, talk about his or her studies and education, describe his or her work experience. Furthermore, the student will be familiar with and able to write common working life documents, such as professional letters and e-mails, a letter of application, a CV, and able to survive common situations, e.g. a job interview.
Content
Formal vs. informal style and language.
Features of technical writing and various technical documents.
Professional correspondence: formal letters, memos, email communication.
Principles of planning and delivering a professional oral presentation and writing professional slides.
Delivery and peer assessment of a professional oral presentation on a field related topic.
Development of and receiving feedback on one’s writing and presentation skills.
Job application process.

The student gives a satisfactory presentation with visual aids. The student is able to communicate in common working life situations.

The student knows how to write common working life documents.

The student gives a realtively good presentation with visual aids. The student is able to communicate in common working life situations.
Writing:
The student is able to write common working life documents appropriately.
Assessment and development of communication skills:
The student is able to assess both his or her own and other people’s communication skills, as well as to suggest how communication could be improved.
