Examination regulations, assessment and grading
According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences course assessment criteria are specified in the course implementation plan. The teacher in charge of the course will be responsible for the assessment. At the beginning of the course, students must be informed on the assessment principles which must be based on the course objectives. Assessment takes primarily place for each course and applies to the students who have registered and been accepted on the course. If necessary, different components of a course may be assessed individually. If the course consists of several components, the teacher may point this out in the assessment principles contained in the implementation plan.
The assessment scale is as follows: excellent (5), very good (4), good (3), very satisfactory (2), satisfactory (1), fail (0) and pass (P). Any deviations of this scale will be decided by the President.

Development
The curriculum of the Degree Programme is monitored by the Advisory Council of eight representatives from industry and business. The Advisory Council meets twice a year. The Council saw the goals and pedagogical methods appropriate and corresponding to the needs of the working life. Especially the project approach in learning was considered comparable to the modern engineering processes.
Further information
Studies in mathematics, nature science and computer science are emphasized. This aims to build a theoretical and technological base for professional studies. Also courses in languages and courses to orientate to the professional field are taught. After this 1st study year the student has adopted the basic competences in the theory of engineering, mathematics and physics to develop further her/his media specialization.
During the 2nd study year students orientate themselves to basic professional studies and media applications as well as to tools and fundamental theories which are necessary to carry out media related applications. After the 2nd study year students know the basic technologies in publishing on various platforms and they can use necessary developing programmes and programming languages. Students also are more ready and competent to go to jobs of the professional field for their practical training.
The 3rd year is to go deeper in information technology in general and to specialize on the basis of personally selected Optional Modules. A student of the 3rd year can already produce a media application on to variable platforms and cooperate in projects. Also business courses are studied during the 3rd year. Students get acquainted with business economy and accounting. The specialization in software programming, multi-channel publishing, audio-visual technology or production economy will go deeper.
During the final study year students learn more how to direct working groups and teams. Advanced studies and to combine disciplines which have been taught are also a theme of the 4th study year. The studies in the 4th year aim to find the future of media technology and take an angle of view in which way the own special field is going to change. Furthermore, one of the goals of the two final semesters is also the ability of creative media industrial design, also in business-to-business activities. The process culminates in the Bachelor's Thesis. After this the graduate is mature and in complete preparedness to work as an engineer in the field of media having a certificate of Bachelor of Science.
