Objective

Students develop their competence in implementing nursing of children, young people and families. They comprehend the significance of empowerment from the viewpoint of nursing of children, young people and families. Students are able to implement nursing interventions, in particular patient education, to enable the empowerment of children, young people and families.

Qualifications

Prerequisites for enrolling in pediatric clinical practice is the completion of the pediatric theoretical course and passing dosage calculation, as well as having completed preclinical practice.

Further information

Preclinical practice, 1,5 cr: monitoring child growth, neonatal care, monitoring sight and hearing of children, nursing interventions in pediatric care, resuscitation. care of the dying child, care of the handicapped child, preclinical briefing.
Clinicals consist of 7.5 cr = 200 hrs, part of which students may use 3 hrs / week to write their assignments at or outside the ward.
Placements to be reserved through JobStep: pediatric and adolescent wards, units for handicapped children, children psychiatric units, primary health care. Eg, HUS Lastenklinikka: all wards except K7 and K9, OR, A&E, all neurological and children psychiatric wards, including Päiväranta, HUS Aurora, HUS Töölö/ HuSuKe (cleft palate centre), HUS Iho- ja allergiasairaala ward 1 and day care unit, HUS eye-ENT hospital wards 22, 24 and day surgery unit, Jorvi hospital all pediatric wards and psychiatric wards (for children and adolescents), Hyvinkää hospital ward 5, HUS Naistensairaala ward V37 (Kätilöopisto), N7 (in Meilahti).
Assignment deals with patient / family educatioin. Separate instructions will be given out to students.
