Objective
After completing the course the student is able to
- explain the function of a building frame
- explain the principles of common methods used in lateral stiffening of a building
- work out the actions on the stiffening system of a building
- derive the load distribution on structures of a stiffening system
- design a concrete wall diaphragm and its joints to other structures
- define required tie reinforcement in joints between precast concrete elements
- design concrete structures with no structural reinforcement
- consider the prevention of progressive collapse
